X-Rays are a form of electromagnetic radiation, like visible light. Unlike light, however, x-rays have higher energy and can pass through most objects, including the body. Medical x-rays are used to generate images of bone, tissues, and structures inside your body.

A mammogram is an X-ray of your breast. Traditional mammography creates a 2D image of the breast and is a screening and diagnostic tool used to detect and diagnose breast cancer. Together with regular clinical exams and monthly breast self-examinations, mammograms are a key element in the early diagnosis of breast cancer. We offer 2D and 3D mammography at all four of our sites. 3D mammography, also known as Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT), is an advanced form of breast imaging that uses a low-dose x-ray system and computer reconstruction to create three-dimensional images of the breast, which improves the early detection of breast cancer during screening and diagnostic exams; this is especially instrumental in women with dense breast tissue.
